Just as Samsung says it, “to live in a world of possibilities”, it has always offered us with one of the best Android phones ever in the market often called as the king of all. But has it maintained the legacy in 2018 with its new flagship? Here is Samsung Galaxy S9 Review for you:

Samsung Galaxy S9 Review:

Samsung Galaxy S9 sure has an upgraded camera, beautiful design, and the topmost specs. It further fixes the main issue we faced in Samsung Galaxy S8 which was the poor biometric. Due to which it wasn’t easy to unlock the phone but the question is can it beat the rest of its competitors? Also, is it worth upgrading with a camera having an exceptional low-light performance, robust frame and far better power? Let’s find out!

Design:

Samsung Galaxy S9 has Samsung’s now-signature curved glass panels on the front as well as back made from the aluminum frame. This is to support the smartphone well into your palm since the phone’s curved pieces of glass make it easy to hold. Compared to Galaxy S8, the front panel curved edges are less intense hence; the swiping is much easier from the edges of the screen. Moreover, the location of the fingerprint sensor on Samsung Galaxy S9 has been changed from the last year’s design. This is way easier than the previous model and the sensor is just under the camera in the middle. When holding the phone, this is exactly where our finger falls naturally.

Display:

The display of Samsung Galaxy S9 includes AMOLED panels which offer vibrant colors, deep blacks along with viewing angles that are extremely superb. On the Galaxy S8 line, it has a 15 percent brighter comparatively. The right and left sides do not bleed all the way to the edge so the infinity display is a repetitive feature. Other than that, Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio and a 5.8-inch display with Quad HD+ (2,960 x 1,440) as its maximum resolution and is also set at Full HD+.

Performance:

The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC currently in the US while elsewhere, for now, Samsung’s own Exynos 9810. During the Samsung Galaxy S9 Review, we tested it and there was no slowdown or stutters experienced. It comes with a 4 GB of RAM and we are sure it works wonderfully well in terms of performance. And it won’t let anyone down from this aspect who is willing to purchase it.

Hardware:

Samsung has given its users 64 GB onboard storage on Samsung Galaxy S9 that can also be expanded up to 400 GB through microSD. For all those, who have a habit of loading up their devices with podcasts and a lot of music, it’s definitely good news. You can even use the 3.5 mm headphone jack to your headphones if you are not streaming on the S9’s Bluetooth 5 connection.

Camera:

This is the main place where Samsung has really focused S9 “the camera”. Samsung is always trying to make its camera better over time and comes up with something innovative every year. This time we were curious as to where possibly will it come up with. Samsung’s self-customized avatar is basically a take on Apple’s avatar which can be a completely different thing or just of a copy one’s self. You have the option to change the Avi’s skin color, hair, and outfit, however, there aren’t much customization options on Samsung Galaxy S9 for now. The hair colors are not really advanced and even the outfits are limited.

Other than that, any other recent Samsung user would be familiar with upfront 8 MP camera with autofocus which Samsung Galaxy S9 also has. The selfies might not be as good as with the Google Pixel 2’s machine-learning shooter, but overall they are good. A selfie focus is also available as a type of portrait mode. It has the ability to find the cutout of the subject and then blur the background pleasantly. The rear 12 MP shooter is definitely the Samsung’s best foot-gear. Samsung Galaxy S9 has a dual aperture mode (more on that in a second) and it works amazingly in low light.

New speakers:

Samsung Galaxy S9 is AKG tuned which is really loud this time and is a big upgrade from S8. Samsung has improved the speaker setup in Samsung Galaxy S9 as its key feature. You will notice that the top earpiece will fire the sound towards your face if you shoot out the bottom of the phone. The speakers are tuned in a way as to enable a sense of space from the audio coming out from the phone by supporting Dolby Atmos sound. Even though it lacks a bit of punch, but the fact how thin this phone is, it is very impressive with the overall quality of sound and volume.

Software:

Talking about the software of Samsung Galaxy S9, it runs solely on Android 8.0 Oreo. The software package of Samsung still has a number of duplicate applications just like its previous generations. Samsung for some reason thinks it’s important. Also, it is not giving up in the virtual assistant either. Samsung Galaxy S9 has an upgraded version of Bixby. The button has been kept on the sides so you can easily interact with your assistant. You can ask Bixby to take a snap and send it to your friend. This process will take about 30 seconds assuming it will find the friends to start with so overall it is slow and takes a long time. You’d rather do it manually.

However, Bixby on Samsung Galaxy S9 can work out a lot of things that it can see. It will give you great results for things such as nature scenes, lamps, comics etc on the web. All in all, the voice is behind but the vision is quite useful. You can turn it off as well.

Price and battery:

We all know that Samsung Galaxy S9 is nowhere near cheap and is available for $719.99 US dollars. Its battery has 3,000 mAh which is unremovable. Along with fast Wired Charging (compatible to QC 2.0) or with fast Wireless Charging (that is compatible with PMA and WPC), it gives about 7 hours and 23 minutes on continuous use which is pretty average.

Verdict: Samsung Galaxy S9

The Samsung Galaxy S9 hasn’t really sacrificed on its features and the displays are top-notch. With best quality, speakers, solid camera performance and upgraded specs, it has once again made it to best Android phones of 2018. Anyone who is willing to purchase a new phone or switch to Samsung should go for it. The TechSeer will give it an 8.7 out of a solid 10.
