8.1 Good

The laptop overall is an efficient piece of gadgetry that makes the gaming experience somewhat better than some average laptops yet it isn't the ultimate gaming laptop one ought to invest in. The display quality and design have been comprised to put it under budgeted laptops. However, it can run most of the latest games and doesn’t get heated up too quickly. The TechSeer will give it a scoring of 8.1 out of a solid 10.

Dell has been launching Inspiron Gaming series for a while now. These are exclusively labeled as gaming laptops. For the price they’re selling at and hype they’ve caused, they look quite promising for a quality gaming experience. This year the company has launched Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop for its budgeted users which can play almost all of the latest titles.

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Review

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop is your everyday machine powerful enough to support your daily heavy-duty multitasking and gaming. It runs Windows 10 Home OS. The basic model is powered by the 7th generation Intel Core i5 7300HQ Quad-core processor (6MB cache up to 3.5Ghz) with an 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM, 256GB of PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, GTX 1060 and an IPS display. The upgraded model will have an Intel Core i7 7700HQ Quad-core processor with 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD and 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive. You can opt for a 32GB RAM instead of pre-configured 8GB or 16GB RAM in both models. Tasking and gameplay would be smooth with the incorporation of SSD.

Pros:

  • Budgeted laptop for beginners.
  • Good gaming experience.
  • Good battery life.

Cons:

  • Not a vivid display.
  • Full of bloatware.
  • Average exterior design.

Design:

A general trend we’ve observed over the years is that when it comes to economical gadgetries, there’s always one main feature that the company compromises on. For the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop, it’s the exterior. Weighing 4.9 pounds and with dimensions of 15 x 10.2 x 0.9 inches, the Inspiron 15 7000 appears slim and light.

Yet it is a solid chunk of a rectangular midsized block. The exterior design doesn’t seem to be taken into much consideration while production. Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop is simple and minimalistic. Dell does not cater to any aesthetic gamer muses here. The cover is plastic bearing Dell’s logo in the center. In short, build quality is compromised because of its low budget.

With a color selection option between Matte Black and Beijing Red which has a pop of red color which somehow contrasts with the red light of the keyboard looks rather modest.

Display:

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop features a 15.6 inches full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) or a UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) IPS Anti Glare LED-Backlit display in the upgraded model. This makes the entire visual experience quite promising. From the inside, with the lid raised the screen is the second feature after the exterior that seems to be the compromise of an “economical gaming laptop”. It is not too fancy. The glare is leaky. The viewing angles are limited and the color reproduction is average. The longer one looks at it, the foggier it appears to be.

  • Brightness: 220nt
  • ARGB: 34%

Despite the fact that the resolutions are a quite an enriched number, its practical disappointing. Glare leakage tends to occur from all four sides of the screen on Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop. To further enhance the visuals, it comes with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 graphics memory. The picture lucidity and the laptop’s ability to support the graphics of all the latest games makes this laptop a sure buy for gamers on a low budget. In short, the screen is not super bad but the viewing angles from all 4 sides are poor due to 1080 TN panel. You can upgrade it to 4K if you don’t want a bad screen.

Gaming & Performance:

As a normal daily use laptop, Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop might function as an average one. But surprisingly when it comes to gaming, it has proved its sturdiness in keeping up with a lot of high-end gaming laptops. Dell offers configuration upgrades at various prices such as doubling the RAM, increasing hard drive size etc. It can handle VR games on HTC Vive Pro and Oculus Go which is pretty sweet for the price its worth.

We played many titles on it and rendered around 60fps on ultra settings.

  • Overwatch: 58fps
  • TitanFall 2 : 63fps

You can choose to go for Intel i5-7300 or i7-7700. We’d prefer an i7 if you want to keep this laptop longer. Also, you will have the option to change the graphics card. You can choose from GTX1050, 1050TI or 1060. I would personally go for GTX 1060 to enjoy high-end games. I have used the same card on Alienware R4 17 and believe me its worth it.

Storage, Connectivity & Webcam:

Another feature that yells, win-win is the memory. We just never seem to have enough of it. Right? But with a 1TB 5400 rpm hard drive, it is more than enough to store all the games and software required without the fear of clearing out data repeatedly to make more space. Yes, 5400 rpm ordinary drive is slow but it also offers 256 GB SSD and you can upgrade it as well but it comes at an extra cost.

Inspiron 15 7000 features WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, 2 x USB 3.0 & 1 x USB 2.0 port, HDMI port, Memory Card reader and an audio combo jack. The audio experience can be enhanced by the incorporation of tuned speakers. It can support almost any quality speakers for an amazing audio output.

For online quality gaming or video calling experiences, Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop supports a 720p HD webcam with an inbuilt dual array microphone.

Keyboard and Touchpad:

The keyboard is plain and not too shabby. Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop does its job well enough. It is backlit in red which contrasts with the laptop’s external color if bought in Beijing Red. Otherwise, the red makes it hard to read the keys against the gray background. The entire keyboard is comfy enough for a gamer but the keys are a bit stiff and you need to click harder.

The plastic touchpad performs much better than its predecessor models and doesn’t make you want to attach a mouse for routinely tasks. It is made up of plastic instead of glass and the feeling is not very premium but it has good pressure activation.

Battery:

The battery life on Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop is an additional bonus. Its run time is quite impressive. It suits users who have to use it for longer periods of time or away from charging sources. It’s just convenient for those long duration clan matches where you’d rather not want to keep the charger plugged in. Our testing showed an average game run on a full battery is about 5 hours and 30 minutes on a normal use whereas during our gameplay of State of Decay 2, it gave us around 2 hours on ultra settings.

Heat:

The thermals on Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Laptop are just fine. There was not much throttling. The fans were quiet as well compared to some other machines we reviewed. The downside is you cannot manually control the fans like in high-end devices. We did not find any unusual activity even during a brutal gameplay.

Our Verdict on Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop:

The laptop overall is an efficient piece of gadgetry that makes the gaming experience somewhat better than some average laptops yet it isn’t the ultimate gaming laptop one ought to invest in. The Inspiron series has been a huge step forward for Dell. It focuses on today’s much-hyped quality gaming experience.

Yes, the display quality isn’t that great but it runs all the games one could possibly think of. Doesn’t get heated up too quickly and when its this pocket-friendly, the tiny drawbacks can be looked over.
